Softball Dirt http://www.softballdirt.com News and Gossip About Fastpitch Softball Sat, 15 Aug 2009 02:26:58 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.9.2 en hourly 1 Adidas Futures Camp http://www.softballdirt.com/adidas-futures-camp/ http://www.softballdirt.com/adidas-futures-camp/#comments Sun, 31 Aug 2008 21:33:40 +0000 Barbara adidas futures george event camp showcase selected order http://www.softballdirt.com/?p=40 The Adidas Futures Camp is an annual event held in St. George, Utah.  It is sponsored by Adidas and hosted by The Pitchers Mound.  In order to participate in this event, players must be selected by scouts across the country attending different showcase tournaments.  It is an honor to be selected as an Adidas top 100 since the status speaks to the elite.  The recruits are notified through the mail of their selection and must not be signed in order to attend.

This is a two and a half day event that takes place at the Canyon fields in St. George.  Friday night is the registration and keynote, Saturday is a full days of skills showcase and Sunday is 5 showcase games.

After a tough loss to the Arizona Wildcats softball team at the Women’s College World Series (WCWS), you gotta give it to Monica Abbott.  With all the accolades this girl has under her belt, it was hard to watch her lose that game.  Even though it was so exciting to watch Taryn Mowatt win it.

http://softballdirt.scvlife.net/taryn-mowett-wins/ The 2007 Espy Awards had some definite softball representation there with Taryn Mowatt’s nominations including best female college athlete and the one she was selected for:

Taryn was up against some amazing athletes in this category. For starters, Lisa Leslie (of LA Sparks fame), Lorena Ochoa (pro-golfer) and Candace Parker (Lady Vols basketballer).

Pretty sweet way to end her season and bring her to one of the greatest moments of her life, aside from winning the College World Series of course. Not to mention she looked gorgeous in her royal blue gown and was very eloquent when saying her acceptance speech.

Softball players are becoming more mainstream and the sport is getting some national recognition in the media which can’t be a bad thing.

Congrats to Taryn Mowatt. Too bad Kate Walsh totally botched the pronunciation of her name when she announced her as the winner. Maybe Kate played soccer in high school?
