We know Jennie can kick ass on the field, let’s see what she can do in the business world.

Having Jennie Finch appear on such a high profile show  is really fantastic for the sport of fastpitch.  The reputation of the game is changing and bringing it in to the main stream will only benefit the sport in the long run. 

At the younger ages, the pin is one of they most important aspects about going to a national tournament and there is typically an event scheduled just for the girls to trade.  The girls/parents spend quite a bit of time trading and frankly, if your pin is cheap and cheesy, girls won’t want to trade with you so be prepared.  I’d advise investing at least $2.00 per pin if you can.  Anything less than that and girls may want you to trade 2 pins for their 1 pin.  I am serious, they really do that. 

So here’s a couple tips:

1) If you are on a budget, make sure you go for size before anything else or consider getting about 15 nice (impressive) pins and then get a cheaper version made as an alternate.  That way you only trade your expensive pins for other expensive pins, etc.

2) Blinky lights are popular.

3) Moving parts are very popular. 

4) If at all possible, plan ahead and get these done 6 weeks or more ahead of time.

5) If you have more than one age group in your club, try and get the same pin because most companies give volume discounts.

6) Triple check your final proof.

7) When picking a theme, think of what’s trendy.  For example, if I were designing a pin right now, I’d go for something like an iPhone or MySpace, etc.  Of course, you can always stick to the traditional softball related pins, those are also fantastic, but the unique ones tend to be popular albeit expensive.

Get a pin bag or something for the girls to keep their pins/on. (towel, sash)

No surprise in the top two for anyone that watched the Women’s College World Series, but in case you’re curious to see where your school placed on the list, here’s a link to the USA Poll.

How do you do this?  For starters, you need to make sure the coach has taught and demonstrated 6 core ethical values.  Here they are in no particular order:

• Fairness
• Caring
• Good Citizenship
• Responsibility
• Respect

In addition, they must have 10 years experience under their belts actively coaching at a high school level.

Ever dreamed of making it to the silver screen?  Are you an actress inside a softball players body?  Here’s your chance to audition for a role in an upcoming movie about a fastpitch softball team.

Here’s the info sent out by ASA age group coordinators.

September 1 and 2 – The Louisiana Film Center and STATE, LLC are holding auditions for the first film about girls fast-pitch softball. These auditions are lead roles for the main team. Talent must have high school appearance. Talent will be assessed on both acting & softball playing abilities.

STATE is a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) film. Both SAG and non-SAG actors are encouraged to audition. This is a family oriented sports drama movie about a battle-hardened football coach taking the reins of a girls high school softball team, and his team’s unlikely journey to the State Championship.
